Karijini National Park Tours – 5 Sights Not To Miss!

Karijini National Park Tours – 5 Sights Not To Miss!
13/07/2017 Tim Casey

Karijini National Park is one of Western Australia’s well known tourist destinations, famous for its stunning gorges, waterways and diverse wildlife. The second largest national park in the West, behind Karlamilyi National Park in the Pilbara, Karijini offers a variety of locations for you to explore.

5 sights your Kaijini National Park Tourswould benefit from including:

1. Dales Gorge& Fortescue Falls

This section of the National Park is a perfect location from which many Day Trips can be planned. A few nights camping at the Dales camping ground allows you to take advantage of nearby; Dales gorge, Fortescue Falls and Circular Pool. There are many hikes, from easy to expert level, starting from this section of the national park.

2. Weano Gorge

Perhaps the most accessible of all of Karijini’s Gorges, Weano Gorge is the entry point to Handrail Pool, a beautiful swimming spot within the national park. If you are uncertain of your fitness level, this spot is a good testing ground. The walk down to the basin isn’t too strenuous, although if you venture past Handrail Pool, further into the gorge the terrain becomes more challenging. If swimming isn’t your thing, you could always visit Oxer Lookout, for an impressive view of Weano, Red, Hancock & Joffre gorges.

3. Mount Bruce

Mount Bruce is the second highest mountain in Western Australia, behind Mount Meharry, at a height of 1,234 meters above sea level. With elevation, come spectacular views of the surrounding Hamersley Range. Day tours and hikes in this section of the national park are of varying difficulties and length. Recently this section of the park was temporarily closed due to wildfire damage, so it is always wise to check the Parks website for updated information before planning any Karijini National Park tours.

4. Hamersley Gorge

Located in the north-west region of Karijini National Park, Hammersley is a great spot for a swim. There are a few hikes around this area including a shorter 30 minute hike which takes in a waterfall and another much longer 3 hour hike which takes in a larger section of the gorge including an area of the river which is known as a natural “spa pool.”

5. Wildlife

Natural landscapes are amazing to behold, but don’t forget about those natural sights that move! Karijini is home to many Australian animals including; kangaroos, rock wallabies, echidnas, goannas, geckos, snakes and a wide variety of birds. Make sure whatever Karijini tour you choose allows you time to appreciate these wonderful creatures.
