Itinerary Details
Day 1
(MD, Motel) Fly to Broome where we settle into the Oaks Cable Beach Resort for four nights and start to acclimatise to the Northern Wet. March means experiencing the tail-end of the wet season, with hot, humid conditions and a high chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, often with dramatic lightning displays.
Day 2
(CB, RD, Motel) At this time of the year it feels like we have Broome to ourselves. Our guide takes you for a slow paced, in-depth tour of the cultural, historic and scenic sites of Broome. From the dinosaurs to the arrival of the Yawuru People, European settlement, the rise and fall of the mother of Pearl industry, WWII attacks, cultured Pearls and more recently Tourism. This tour is made more tactile by a visit to the engaging Broome Museum. This afternoon we head over to Town Beach to watch Staircase to the Moon, a natural phenomenon unique to Western Australia’s North West, when the rising full moon reflects over the tidal flats to create the illusion of a shimmering staircase reaching up to the sky. It’s one of Broome’s most magical sights.
Day 3
(CB, L, MD, Motel) Today is all about getting up in the air and viewing the ancient landscape from the air. Departing Broome we track across the Dampier Peninsula and King Sound, home to Australia’s largest tides and amongst the highest in the world. Overfly the Horizontal Waterfalls described by Sir David Attenborough as ‘the 8th Natural Wonder of the World’. Fly across the stunning Buccaneer Archipelago, home to 1,000 islands made of Precambrian sandstone over 2 billion years old. Landing at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, enjoy a Pearl Farm Discovery Tour giving you an insight into the fascinating history of pearling at Cygnet Bay and learn about the cultivation of some of the most sought-after and beautiful pearls in the world. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm’s on-site restaurant and enjoy a refreshing swim at their on-site swimming pool. Coastal return flight overhead the stunning red cliffs at Cape Leveque, then southbound along the beautiful bays and beaches of the Dampier Peninsula with views of Beagle Bay, James Price Point, Willie Creek Pearl Farm and Broome’s world-famous Cable Beach. Note: Scenic Flight and Pearl Farm Tour included.
Day 4
(CB, RD, Motel) Our final full day is a chance to relax in your room, by the pool or on the beach. Our bus will offer transport between the town and the beach through the day. In the afternoon we head down the beach for the last time to have nibbles and drinks watching the sunset on Cable Beach and our final dinner in Broome.
Day 5
(CB) Departing Broome to return home after a memorable experience in “The Wet” of Northern Western Australia.
