Itinerary Details

6 Day Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show & Esperance

Day 1

(MD, Motel) Depart Perth travel southeast out on Albany Highway through the rolling farmland of the Wheatbelt. Pause for morning tea around Williams, then continue through Broomehill, Gnowangerup. Skirting the north of the Fitzgerald River National Park breaking for flowers and history as we cross the Phillips River. Into Hopetoun on the Southern Ocean.

Day 2

(CB, MD, Motel) Spending the day around Ravensthorpe to visit the Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show, one of the largest displays of wildflowers of its kind in the world. Starting in 1982, run largely by local volunteers the main display is held at Ravensthorpe Town Hall, where around 700 species of locally collected, botanically identified wildflower specimens are arranged by plant family. Afterwards, hunt around the Ravensthorpe district to look for wildflowers growing in their natural habitat. Making our way back down the coast with stops for photographs and short, easy walks as we return to Hopetoun.

Day 3

(CB, MD, Motel) Along the Southern Ocean the Jerdacutta Lakes and low coastal heathland give an opportunity for a completely different type of flower hunting. Reaching Starvation Harbour, where the No 1 Rabbit Proof Fence reached the coast in 1907. Travel on through Munglinup to Esperance.

Day 4

(CB, MD, Motel) Spending the day around Esperance starting with a visit to Helms Arboretum to explore its extensive collection of native trees and plants, with time for a gentle walk. Return to Esperance for lunch and free time in town. In the afternoon we tour past Pink Lake and Twilight Beach before finishing our time in town at the Rotary Lookout. High on a granite outcrop it offers expansive views of the surrounding coast, the remote islands of the Recherche Archipelago and the sweeping panorama of the town of Esperance.

Day 5

(CB, MD, Motel) Leave the coast travel west back to Ravensthorpe and north to Lake King. With the canola crops shinning in the extensive fields we continue across the eastern Wheatbelt to Hyden. On arrival, visit the remarkable Wave Rock precinct and Hippo’s Yawn. Check into your accommodation and enjoy the final group dinner of the tour.

Day 6

(CB) Depart Hyden and travel west through the Wheatbelt. Stop at Corrigin, known for its country character, then continue via Quairading and historic York, where there is time for lunch and a short stroll. Return to Perth in the late afternoon.

Note: Program details may change due to variations in flower growth from season to season.
