4 Day Margaret River Escape
Day 1
(MD, Motel) Our Margaret River escape begins as we leave Perth behind and head south along the Forrest Highway and Wilman Wadandi Highway, watching the city give way to open farmland, forests and the rolling landscapes of the South West. Our first taste of the region is at Capel Marron Farm, where we get to experience the journey from “Pond to Plate.” Join a guided walk through this working farm, discover how marron are grown in the pristine waters of the South West, and hear the stories behind this much-loved Western Australian delicacy. Enjoy a delicious farm-to-table experience featuring locally produced marron and other seasonal flavours of the region. Continue south through the beautiful countryside. The landscape gradually changes as we pass rolling farmland, orchards and vineyards, signalling that we’re getting closer to Margaret River.
Day 2
(FB, L, MD, Motel) Today we’re going hunting for the flavours of Margaret River. Our morning is devoted to some of the region’s delicious treasures. We’ll meander through the wine country in search of chocolate, creamy local cheeses, fresh berries and golden olive oil, stopping along the way to taste, browse and discover the passionate producers behind them. By late morning, our appetites should be well and truly ready for the main event, lunch at one of Margaret River’s renowned wineries. Settle in, take in the vineyard views and enjoy a leisurely meal showcasing the exceptional produce of the South West. There’s no need to rush the afternoon. Relax over wine tastings, discover the stories behind the vineyards and learn what makes this corner of Western Australia one of the world’s celebrated wine regions.
Day 3
(FB, MD, Motel) Today we travel south to the historic town of Augusta, located at the south-western tip of Western Australia. Our first highlight today is Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, dramatically positioned where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean. Explore the lighthouse precinct, enjoy the spectacular coastal views and discover the stories of the lighthouse keepers and early maritime history of the region. After lunch in Augusta, we begin our scenic return journey through the magnificent Boranup Karri Forest, where towering karri trees create one of the most memorable landscapes of the South West. In the afternoon, discover one of Margaret River’s spectacular limestone caves. Walk beneath the surface and marvel at ancient limestone formations created over thousands of years. After our cave experience, return to Margret River on a scenic drive through the vineyards and forest for our final night together.
Day 4
(FB) Our final morning takes us along the spectacular coastal road through Yallingup and Meelup, with one last chance to soak up the turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and rugged beauty that make the South West so special. From the coast, we head into the evergrowing town of Dunsborough, where we’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch and have a little time to explore the shops, cafés and foreshore. Then it’s time to point the coach north and begin our journey home. Sit back, relax and enjoy the changing scenery as we leave the vineyards, forests and beaches of the South West behind. Arrive back in Perth in the late afternoon, bringing our South West escape to a close.
