Itinerary Details
Day 1
(RD, Motel) Landing in Darwin you are met by our friendly tour staff and luxury Safari Coach. Settle into the Darwin motel before heading into the City for our first dinner together while getting to know your fellow passengers.
Day 2
(FB, PD, Motel) Day tour to Kakadu National Park, starting with a visit to Fogg Dam to spot birds on the wetlands. Later a boat cruise on Yellow Water with the skipper explaining this ancient, interesting ecosystem. Dinner on the way back to Darwin. Note: Park entry and Boat Cruise included.
Day 3
(FB, Motel) Into Darwin for a full tour including Battery Point, The Port and the City Centre. Visit to the Darwin Museum; depicting the events of cyclone Tracy in 1974 and the East Point Military Museum; depicting the bombing raids on Darwin in 1942. Free time in the city for dinner. Note: East Point Museum included.
Day 4
(FB, MD Motel) Down the Stuart Highway to Adelaide River with its beautiful War Cemetery and the gold mining town of Pine Creek to reach Katherine. Afternoon cruise on Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge, these gorges and the surrounding landscape have great ceremonial significance to the local Jawoyn people. Note: Gorge Cruise included.
Day 5
(FB, MD, Motel) Following the Victoria River though huge cattle stations including the historic Wave Hill Station. Leaving the Northern Territory and on to the hub of the East Kimberley; Kununurra, a truly amazing place, beautiful, fertile, interesting and relaxing.
Day 6
(FB, MD, Motel) Out to Lake Argyle for an informative cruise on the lake, with the chance to feed fish, spot freshwater crocs and swim. In the afternoon we lower 98m to the bottom of the dam wall to board another cruise, 55km along the Ord River and Lake Kununurra back to our motel. Note: Lake Argyle and Ord River Cruises included.
Day 7
(FB, MD, Motel) Spending the day on El Questro Station. Soaking in the hot springs of Zebedee Springs, lunch at The Station on the Pentecost River before a hike up Emma Gorge into the Cockburn Ranges. Note: Park Fees included.
Day 8
(FB, MD, Motel) Optional morning flight over Lake Argyle and The Bungles. Tour through the irrigated fields and visit the Stonecraft Gallery and Hoochery Distillery. Leaving Kununurra we cross the Ord River again and reach Halls Creek. Note: Scenic Flight not included, approx $529.
Day 9
(CB, PL, MD, Motel) Taking the windy Spring Creek Track into Purnululu National Park to visit The Bungle Bungle Range with an elevation as high as 578m. The famous sandstone domes are unusual and visually striking with their stripes in alternating orange and grey bands. The banding of the domes is due to differences in clay content and porosity of the sandstone layers. Take the hike into Cathedral Gorge and around the majestic domes. Return to Halls Creek. Note: Park entry included.
Day 10
(CB, MD, Motel) From Halls Creek, one of the early settlements of the Kimberley, now the northern end of the Tanami Track and Canning Stock Route. Past Mary Pool and the Mueller Ranges to Fitzroy Crossing, the Fitzroy River runs 733km from high in the King Leopold Ranges to the mouth in King Sound.
Day 11
(FB, PL, PD, Motel) East on the Gibb River Road to the Napier Range and Windjana Gorge for lunch before a wander along the Lennard River with a great number of crocodiles basking on the sandbanks in the sun. Skirting the Oscar Range to Tunnel Creek, we have the opportunity to walk through this 750m, 15m wide and up to 12m high tunnel; one of WA’s most interesting natural features. Returning to Derby. Note: Park entry included.
Day 12
(FB, MD, Motel) Back on the Great Northern Highway we cross the river for the last time at Willare before reaching the coast at Broome for feeding time at Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park. Note: Crocodile Park included.
Day 13
(FB, PD, Motel) A relaxing day touring Broome including China town, the Port and Gantheaume Point. We finish of the tour with dinner watching the sunset on Cable Beach.
Day 14
(FB) Returning home having fallen in love with the winding rivers and rugged escarpments of the Kimberley and the Top End.
