(RD, Motel) We fly to Cairns, where we are met by the coach and transferred to our motel for two nights. Note: Flights arriving after 6pm will have a picnic dinner provided in your room.
(CB, RD, Motel) Travel North of Cairns to experience the Skyrail, ascending the ranges floating above the Rainforest to Red Peak for a walk through the ancient landscape. Continue to Barron Falls with its spectacular views of the Barron Gorge National Park. Visit the CSIRO Rainforest Interpretation Centre and learn more about the area’s pioneering past at the historical display. To Kuranda, a beautiful little village in the forest. Returning to Cairns aboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway as you descend 328m through a tropical paradise framed by rugged mountains with waterfalls tumbling into deep ravines. Note: Skyrail and Railway included.
(CB, RD, Motel) To the Cairns Marina to board the ferry to transfer to Fitzroy Island for the next two nights. The Island has been home to the Gunganji people for thousands of years and is a mountainous rainforest oasis surrounded by fringing reef formations. It is part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and has been a fishing base, mission and military base during World War II to protect Australia’s mainland from invasion. Most of the walking trails were formed during this time, hence their access to some of the best vantage points in the region. Note: Ferry included.
(CB RD, Motel) At Fitzroy Island, it’s all about rainforest, beaches and high reaches, with just as much to explore on land as in the sea. There is plenty of time for swimming and diving, for those not wanting to get wet there is the option of a glass bottom boat to view the soft coral and marine life. We also visit the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, a voluntary-based, non-profit organisation, to learn about the journey to recovery which injured or sick turtles undergo whilst at this centre. In the afternoon we take a sail around Fitzroy Island taking in the beauty of the Reef, your experienced skipper will choose sites for spotting sea turtles and an array of tropical fish. Note: Turtle Centre and Catamaran Sail included.
(CB, RD, Motel) As we say good bye to Fitzroy Island we return to mainland and travel south along Highway One past Mission Beach. Pausing at Ingham, with its Italian descent it isn’t surprising that the township is often referred to as “Little Italy”. Settled in 1864, Ingham is the heart of the local sugar cane industry, where many Italian migrants came to work, and has one of the largest sugar mills in Australia, before travelling to our destination for the night Townsville. Note: Ferry included.
(CB, RD, Motel) To the Breakwater Ferry Terminal and onto another Ferry for the short journey to Magnetic Island, with its natural beauty and serenity of an island paradise within a thriving community with more than 2,500 people calling Magnetic Island home. Note: Ferry included.
(CB, RD, Motel) Magnetic Island offers quiet, secluded beaches, rugged nature, abundant wildlife and easy access to the Great Barrier Reef. We take a comprehensive day tour of beautiful Magnetic Island with commentary by a friendly, knowledgeable local tour guide. Covering wildlife, flora, geology, folk lore, attractions and more, many creatures are sighted and there is even interaction with some. We head out for dinner overlooking the ocean for our final night dinner.
(CB) Our last Ferry ride is back to Townsville before jumping on the plane to return home. Note: Ferry included.
