MEALS

Day 1

(MD, Motel) Fly to Melbourne were we are met by our crew. Heading East to Gippsland on the Princes Highway. An afternoon stop in Warragul before settling into our Motel in Sale for two nights.

Day 2

(CB, MD, Motel) A morning drive along the picturesque Ninety Mile Beach from Seaspray to Golden Beach in the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park. We return to Sale for morning tea before heading out to Lakes Entrance, a man made channel that links the Tasman Sea with a 400km2 network of inland water ways known as the Gippsland Lakes. Time for lunch in this striking town with its rivers, lagoons, beaches and bays. Returning to Sale via the rolling fields around Meerlieu.

Day 3

(CB, MD, Motel) Through East Gippsland along the Great Alpine Road we follow the Tambo River to Tambo Crossing and Ensay. Climbing Higher into the Victorian Highlands we reach Omeo where gold was struck in 1851 in the Livingstone Creek. As we reach the snow line the vegetation is more stunted and sturdy. We visit Hotham Heights Alpine Village and cross the crest of The Great Dividing Range near the summit of Mount Hotham. Descend to Bright, an interesting service town for the surrounding snow fields.

Day 4

(CB, RL, MD, Motel) Visit the Alpine Discovery Centre, an interesting display of life in the Kiewa Valley and highlands as well as displays on the Hydro Power systems of the area. Mount Beauty sits 353m above sea level, from here we travel 30km following the Rocky Gully Creek to Falls Creek Alpine Village at 1600m above sea level. Enjoy a hearty lunch as a group at the Falls Creek Village overlooking the ski fields before a visit to Wallace Hut. Built in 1889 by three Wallace brothers, the oldest existing Cattleman’s Hut in the Alpine Park. Back down the mountain to Bright.

Day 5

(CB, MD, Motel) Into Myretleford for morning tea before a charming drive across to Stringybark Creek, the area the Kelly Gang shot down the Mansfield Constables which led to the infamous shootout at Glenrowan. We reach Mansfield, surrounded by mountain forests and lush grazing fields.

Day 6

(CB, MD, Motel) A morning visit to Mt Buller Alpine Village, one of the closest snow fields to Melbourne which makes it very popular with skiers in the winter and popular with bush walkers, horse riders and bike riders in the summer. Returning to Mansfield there is time to wander this quaint mountain town before our final dinner together.

Day 7

(CB) “Were going to Bonnie Doon, were going to Bonnie Doon” on the banks of Lake Eildon. Then travel along the Goulburn River to the old gold mining town of Seymour. Before an afternoon flight home after a relaxing and enjoyable tour of the Victorian Highlands.
