Day 1

(PD, Motel) Landing in Broome you are met by our friendly tour staff and luxury 4WD coach. Settle into the Broome motel and get to know your fellow passengers before dinner.

Day 2

(FB, MD, Ensuited Safari Tent) Off to the East, we cross the first of the big rivers of the tour; The Fitzroy River at Willare Bridge. Continuing on the Great Northern Highway, 200km up the river we reach the town of  Fitzroy Crossing.

Day 3

(FB, PL, MD, Ensuited Safari Tent) Skirting the Oscar Range to Tunnel Creek, we have the opportunity to walk through this 750m, 15m wide and up to 12m high tunnel; one of WA’s most interesting natural features. Up to Windjana Gorge for lunch and a wander along the  Lennard River with a great number of crocodiles basking on the sandbanks in the afternoon sun. Return to Fitzroy Crossing. Note: Park Entry included.

Day 4

(FB, CAD, Ensuited Safari Tent) On the move again to Halls Creek, one of the early settlements of the Kimberley and now the northern end of the Tanami Track and Canning Stock Route. We cross the Ord River for the first time and reach the Bungle Bungle Camp at the start of the Spring Creek Track.

Day 5

(CAB, PL, CAD, Ensuited Safari Tent) Taking the windy track into Purnululu National Park to visit The Bungle Bungle Range with an elevation as high as 578m, famous for the sandstone domes, unusual and visually striking with their striped in alternating orange and grey bands. The banding of the domes is due to differences in clay content and porosity of the sandstone layers. Take the hike into Cathedral Gorge and along Piccaninny Creek. Return to our accommodation.  Note: Park Entry included.

Day 6

(CAB, MD, Motel) Optional morning helicopter flight from the camp over the ground we covered yesterday and a large section of Mabel Downs Station. North to Wyndham on Cambridge Gulf and the main port between Broome and Darwin. This town has had a boom and bust history dating back to the Halls Creek gold rush. In the afternoon we reach the hub of the East Kimberley, Kununurra. Note: Helicopter not included, approx $350.

Day 7

(FB, PL, PD, Motel) Spending the whole day on El Questro Station,  enjoy the warm waters of Zebedee Springs and cool water falling into Emma Gorge. Return to Kununurra. Note: Entry to El Questro Wilderness Park included.

Day 8

(FB, PD, Motel) The Ord is spectacular, we take a cruise 55km along the Ord from Kununurra to Lake Argyle. After lunch at the Argyle Village, we board a sunset cruise of Lake Argyle, feeding fish and swimming with freshwater crocs. This evening we return to Kununurra for the last time. Note: Ord River Cruise and Lake Argyle Boat Cruise included.

Day 9

(CB, PL, MD, Motel) Leaving Western Australia we enjoy a wonderful drive along the beautiful and remote Victoria Highway, following the Victoria River to Katherine. Katherine is a service centre for the Central Northern Territory region, a vast area of mainly cattle stations, National Parks and aboriginal lands.

Day 10

(FB, RD, Motel) Enjoy a journey of discovery through the magnificent Nitmiluk Gorge on the Katherine River. On the cruise, you will discover the cultural significance of the first two gorges to the traditional landowners – the Jawoyn People. Into Katherine Town for free time and lunch. North to Darwin in the afternoon.

Day 11

(FB, RD, Motel) Darwin is always changing and growing, recently joining the military as a major industry in town is the oil and gas exploration and processing industry. We spend the day visiting a number of interesting attractions and finish the tour off with a sunset Darwin Harbour Cruise.

Day 12

Free Day in Darwin

Day 13

(FB, RD, Motel) South through Berry Springs to The Territory Wildlife Park for the morning. Continuing to Litchfield National Park with lunch and a swim at Wangi Falls, before Tolmer Falls and the Magnetic Termite mounds. Through Batchelor, we return to Darwin.

Day 14

(FB, MD, Motel) From Humpty Doo we venture out on the Arnhem Highway to Fogg Dam to marvel at the thousands of waterbirds in the wetlands. At Adelaide River, we take a cruise up the river to see the spectacular jumping crocodiles. Entering Kakadu National Park over the South Alligator River before reaching our Jabiru motel. Note: Jumping Croc Cruise and Park Entry included.

Day 15

(FB, RD, Motel) Kakadu is a timeless place, recognised as a global treasure. World Heritage-listed for both its environment and the living Aboriginal culture. The oldest rock art in the park is up to 20,000 years old some recent enough to show European ships. The park is home to around 280 bird and 2000 plant species. We visit the Nourlangie art site and take the Yellow Waters Cruise. In the afternoon we leave the park and head to Katherine. Note: Boat Cruise included.

Day 16

(CB, PL, CAD, Ensuite Cabin) Continuing deep into the Territory we hit the dirt roads before driving through the Limmen National Park to arrive at Lorella Springs Wilderness Park, a family-owned one-million acre untouched remote NT wilderness sanctuary.

Day 17

(CAB, PL, CAD, Ensuite Cabin) Sitting between Rosie Creek and the Tawallah Range we explore the parks gorgeous waterholes and sandstone including the Southern Lost City. The western side of the Gulf has had a varied past since Europeans arrived, most being settled as stations and now much of it is becoming preserved and protected.

Day 18

(CAB, PL, CAD, Ensuite Cabin) An early start down the west side of the gulf, through Borroloola and across a number of seasonal rivers to reach the Northern Territory Queensland border alongside Brach Creek before passing Old Westmoreland Homestead, built-in 1882 on the 1,700km2 station. We spend the night at Hells Gate. Note: Limited ensuite rooms available.

Day 19

(CAB, PD, Motel) Coming to Burketown at the base of the Gulf we cross Leichhardt Falls and stop at Burke and Wills most northern camp to arrive in Normanton. In the afternoon we head up to Karumba for a picnic dinner on the coast.

Day 20

(CB, RD, Ensuite Cabin) Moving away from the Gulf through Croyden, the Gregory Ranges and Georgetown we divert off for the last time and head south to Forsayth.

Day 21

(CB, PL, RD, Ensuite Cabin) We spend the day relaxing around Cobbold Gorge, a beautiful setting on the Robertson River. Including a cruise on the narrow gorge with 30m high walls. This is our last afternoon enjoying the QLD savannah country. Note: Gorge Cruise included.

Day 22

(CAB, RD, Motel) Off the dirt roads for the last time and back to the Development Road, we cross through the Great Dividing Range to reach Atherton. The last leg of the tour takes us down the steep windy roads of the mountains in the lush plantations and rainforest, such a contrast to the open Savannah of the rest of the tour.

Day 23

(CB, RD, Motel) A late start before we spend the morning in Cairns enjoying the city harbour and foreshore, an optional visit to the new Cairns Aquarium showing off many of the remarkable species of the great barrier reef. We go out for our evening meal in town reminiscing on a great outback tour.

Day 24

(CB) Free morning in Cairns before homeward flights.
