ACCOMMODATION

MEALS

Day 1

(PD, Motel) Fly to Cairns where we are met by the coach and transferred to our motel. Note: Flights arriving after 6pm will have snack evening meal provided in the room.

Day 2

(CB, RD, Motel) Crossing the Barron River and climbing the ranges to the beautiful rain forest town of Kuranda with an option to return to Cairns on the Scenic Railway. A free afternoon to enjoy Cairns City before meeting up to enjoy our first dinner together. Note: Scenic Railway not included, approx $50.

Day 3

(CB, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) Leaving the East Coast we chase the sun up onto the Atherton Tablelands and along the Kennedy Highway. From Georgetown we divert south to Forsayth and on to Cobbold Gorge.

Day 4

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) We spend the day relaxing around this stunning outback Queensland setting including a cruise on the narrow gorge with 30m high walls. Note Gorge Cruise included.

Day 5

(CAB, PD, Tent in CVan Park) Having fallen in love with the gorge and the camp on the Robertson River we return to Georgetown, then via Croyden to Normanton where we settle in. In the afternoon we head up to Karumba to view the Gulf of Carpentaria from the East side and have a picnic dinner.

Day 6

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) On the banks of the Little Bynoe River we are standing at the Burke & Wills Camp #119, the most Northerly camp of the ill-fated 1860 expedition. Stopping in at Leichhardt Falls on the Leichhardt River before reaching Burketown, once named “The Plains of Promise”. South on the Wills Development Road to Gregory then out to Adels Grove in the Lawn Hill National Park.

Day 7

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) A full day in Lawn Hill National Park with its sandstone ranges, deep gorges, crystal-clear green waters and lush vegetation below limestone plateaus.

Day 8

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) Returning to Burketown and the Savannah Way through Doomadgee to Hells Gate Roadhouse just before the Northern Territory border.

Day 9

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) Continuing along the dirt road and entering the Northern Territory crossing a number of seasonal rivers that drain the summer rains from the Barkley Tableland; the Calvert, Robinson, Foelsche, & Wearyan before reaching Lorella Springs Wilderness Park.

Day 10

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) Sitting between Rosie Creek and the Tawallah Range we have another day of stunning waterholes and station country on Lorella Springs.

Day 11

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in Nat Park) Back on the dirt north through the Limmen National Park we visit the Southern Lost City and camp near the Roper River

Day 12

(CAB, MD, Motel) Along the Roper Highway to the thermal pools of Mataranka then up the Stuart Highway to Katherine, the hub of the massive Northern Territory cattle industry. Settle into a motel for the night to break up the camps.

Day 13

(FB, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) Into the Western NT as we cross the Ghan Railway to join the Victoria River and visit the Gregory Tree just out of Timber Creek. On reaching Western Australia we pass through the Quarantine Checkpoint to Kununurra.

Day 14

(CAB, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) The Ord is spectacular, we have an optional cruise 55km along the Ord from Kununurra to Lake Argyle. After lunch at the Argyle Village we board a sunset cruise of Lake Argyle, feeding fish and swimming with freshwater crocs. Note: Lake Argyle Boat cruise included. Ord River cruise not included, approx $120.

Day 15

(CAB, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) The Ord Irrigation area has over 400km2 of possible irrigated lands, we take a drive through a small section of the 117km2 currently under irrigation, south alongside the western side of the Carr Boyd Ranges and through Warmun to camp on the Spring Creek Track.

Day 16

(CAB, PL, CAD Tent in CVan Park) Heading into the Bungle Bungle Range exploring Cathedral Gorge and the Domes Walk. The structures in the Purnululu National Park are breath taking, the effects of erosion can be seen from small pools to massive gorges. Returning along the Spring Creek Track through Mabel Downs Station to camp.

Day 17

(CAB, CAD, Tent in Nat Park) Optional helicopter flight over the Bungles in the morning before moving to Halls Creek where on Christmas Day 1885 Charlie Hall unearthed a 870g gold nugget triggering 15,000 people to flock to the area. Crossing the Fitzroy River we make our way to Windjana Gorge formed by the Lennard River having eroded away a three kilometre section of the Napier Range, now inhabited by many crocodiles and birds. Note: Helicopter flight not included, approx $180

Day 18

(CAB, MD, Motel) Morning visit to Tunnel Creek, the 1897 hide out of rogue Aboriginal tracker Jandamarra. The tunnel is 750 metres long and up to 12 metres high in sections. Rounding off the journey across the Savannah of Australia we reach Broome for our final night.

Day 19

(FB) A morning tour of Broome including Gantheume Point, the Port and Chinatown with time to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere before our homeward flights.
