MEALS

Day 1

(CAD, Tent CVan Park) Out of Perth via the Great Northern Highway, through the Wheatbelt to reach the gold mining town of Mt Magnet.

Day 2

(CAB, CAD, Tent CVan Park) This region is dotted with old gold settlements many now ghost towns. We cross Lake Austin and pass the Santa Barbara Mine before reaching the service centre, Meekatharra. On reaching the Ashburton River the countryside changes to the spinefex ranges of the Pilbara. We camp in Newman.

Day 3

(CAB, CAD, Tent CVan Park) Morning Tour of the Mount Whaleback BHP Iron Ore mine. Leaving Newman we pass the new Roy Hill mine site on the Fortescue River, through the Saltbush Range to Nullagine and Marble Bar. Note: Mine Tour included.

Day 4

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) A full day in this interesting town much of which is classified by the National Trust. Originally a Gold town with a population of over 5,000. Later a Airforce Base in WWII for Australian and US airmen who attacked Japanese forces as far away as Borneo. In the afternoon we visit the Marble Bar on the Coogan River.

Day 5

(CAB, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) To Port Hedland where the ore from Newman is exported. The size of the industry here has to be seen to be believed. We continue to Karratha for two nights.

Day 6

(CAB, PD, Tent in CVan Park) A full day exploring the massive industries of Karratha and Dampier. Iron ore, the North West Gas Shelf Project and Dampier Salt produce valuable export dollars for Australia.

Day 7

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in Nat Park) Departing Karratha we travel inland to the Millstream – Chichester National Park an oasis in the desert nestled within the chocolate brown rocks of the Chichester Range dotted with spinifex and snappy gums. Take a swim
in the cool pools and relax. Camp under the stars in the National Park.

Day 8

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) Through the Hamersley Range to Tom Price for two nights.

Day 9

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent in CVan Park) In to Karijini National Park. Some of the Gorges we see today are as impressive as any you would see in Australia. We visit Dales Gorge, Circular Pool and Fortescue Falls at the East end of the park and Oxer and Juntions Pool Lookouts on in the West end.

Day 10

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent on Station) Back out to the North West Coastal Highway at Nanutarra to Bullara Station for a two night camp.

Day 11

(CAB, CAD, Tent on Station) Morning glass bottom boat cruise to view the beautiful coral of Ningaloo Reef. Then up to Exmouth the centre for the Navy Nor-West Cape Base. We travel to the head of the Gulf and up Charles Knife Road to Cape Range National Park, where oil was first found in Western Australia in the 1950’s. Note: Boat Cruise Included.

Day 12

(CAB, CAD, Tent on Station) To Carnarvon to visit the Babbage Island Jetty with its new interpretive centre. This is old North West, sheep station country, where so many over the last 120 years have battled drought and great floods. Further south we head out to Hamelin Station where we set up camp in a beautiful part of the world.

Day 13

(CAB, PL, CAD, Tent on Station) Out to Shark Bay where the dolphins are marvellous. It is most exciting to be so close to one of these wonderful creatures of the wild. We spend most of the morning at Monkey Mia, then visit Denham for lunch. Shell Beach, the Stromatolites and Hamelin Pool then back to Hamelin Station.

Day 14
