ACCOMMODATION

MEALS

Day 1

(PD, Motel) We fly to Townsville to begin our inland adventure. We are transferred to the hotel. Note: Flights arriving after 6pm will have snack evening meal provided in the room.

Day 2

(CB, RD, Motel) Townsville is home of one of the largest army bases in Australia, Lavarack. After touring the town we take a ferry to Magnetic Island just off the coast from Townsville. You can relax on the island and return to Townsville to enjoy the newly beautified city and foreshore. While in the city you may visit Reef HQ, the world’s largest living coral reef aquarium. Note: Magnetic Island Ferry included. Reef HQ not included.

Day 3

(CB, MD, Motel) A leisurely drive south today through lush sugarcane fields to the beautiful Whitsunday area and Airlie Beach.

Day 4

(CB, MD, Motel) A wonderful day on a cruise of the Whitsunday Islands. By this time everybody has fallen in love with the Queensland Coast. Note: Boat trip to Whitsunday Islands included.

Day 5

(CB, MD, Motel) Morning Tea at Marian on the Pioneer River before we leave the coast and head inland through Coppabella and Clermont to Emerald, the centre of a large coal and cotton region.

Day 6

(CB, RD, Motel) Via Fairbairn Dam and Lake Maraboon, one of the largest artificial lakes in the country, built to service the cotton industry, to Roma. We view the courthouse where Captain Starlight was tried and acquitted. In the evening we visit the “Big Rig” display, depicting the history of Roma’s Oil and Gas Industry. Note: Big Rig entry included.

Day 7

(CB, MD, Motel) South via St George and into New South Wales at Hebel. Continuing down the Castlereagh Highway to Lightning Ridge.

Day 8

(CB, PD, Motel) A full day touring this interesting town including the Australia Opal Centre, Underground Opal Mine tour. In the afternoon a fossick for opal before a therapeutic soak in the relaxing Artesian Baths. An evening BBQ under the outback stars.

Day 9

(CB, PL, MD, Motel) Through the wheat, sheep fields region we join the Castlereagh River and follow it to Gulargambone where we head into the Warrumbungle National Park for a picnic lunch in this stunning park. Out of the national park to Gilgandra and into Dubbo.

Day 10

(CB, RD, Motel) Dubbo is the largest town in the Orana Region. We visit to the Western Plains Zoo, which is home to various species of endangered animals, including the White, Black and Indian Rhinoceros. Note: Western Plains Zoo included.

Day 11

(CB, MD, Motel) To the Australian Telescope Visitors Centre north of Parkes, this facility has assisted NASA for several missions as a Southern Hemisphere relay and communications station and was made famous
by the movie “The Dish”. Later to Forbes on the Lachlan River before West Wyalong. Note: Telescope Centre included.

Day 12

(CB, MD, Motel) Continuing down the Newell Highway to Narrandera the gateway to the productive Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. In the afternoon we leave New South Wales and enter Victoria at Echuca on the Murray River.

Day 13

(CB, RD, Motel) In the 1870s Echuca had risen to prominence as Australia’s largest inland port, this industrial boom led to a rapidly expanding population, at one stage in excess of 15,000, with more than a hundred pubs in the region. We visit the historic port and take a Paddle Steamer on the river. Note: Paddle boat included.

Day 14

(CB) On the way to Melbourne we visit Bendigo, notable for its Victorian architectural heritage and gold mining history. Since 1851 over 22 million ounces of gold have been extracted from its goldmines. After an exceptional tour through QLD, NSW & VIC we head to Melbourne and fly home.
