ACCOMMODATION

MEALS

Day 1

(PD, Motel) Landing in Cairns to start the journey along the Queensland Coast. Note: Flights arriving after 6pm will have snack evening meal provided in the room.

Day 2

(CB, RD, Motel) After a town tour of Cairns there is free time in town to enjoy the Pier, Esplanade and City. In the afternoon we hop up the coast for a visit to Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures where we take a Lagoon Cruise amonsgst the crocs and have the oppurtunity to see a number of othere wildlife displays. On the return to Cairns we have dinner on Trinity Beach. Note: Hartley’s entry included.

Day 3

(CB, MD, Motel) Through Innisfail, a rich sugar faming region on the junction of the South and North Johnstone River to Paronella Park. A Spanish Castle completed in 1935 on 5 hectares beside Mena Creek Falls wrapped in over 7000 tropical plants and now listed by the National Trust, including its own hydro-electric plant. We rejoin the coast at Cardwell in the lee of Hinchinbrook Island and make our way down to Townsville for two nights.

Day 4

(CB, RD, Motel) Home to one of Australia’s largest Army Bases, Laverack, we view the base and town from the top of the Castle Hill Lookout then make our way down to Townsville’s beautifully re-developed foreshore. In the afternoon we visit the Jezzine Barracks and Museum on the point, a moving and sobering display honouring those who have fought for Australia. Note: Museum entry included.

Day 5

(CB, RD, Motel) A morning visit to the Australian Institute of Marine Science headquarters at Cape Ferguson, this facility is home to the home to the ‘National Sea Simulator’ a world-class marine research aquarium facility for tropical marine organisms in which scientists can conduct cutting-edge research not previously possible in Australia. We continue south through Ayr and Bowen to Airlie Beach, the mainland port for the Whitsunday Islands. Note: AIMS entry subject to availability.

Day 6

(CB, MD, Motel) A wonderful day on a cruise of the Whitsunday Islands. By this time everybody has fallen in love with the Queensland Coast. Note: Boat trip to Whitsunday Islands included.

Day 7

(CB, MD, Motel) Leaving the coast, the Bruce Highway and the cane fields for the day we head into the ranges. Following the Pioneer River through Marion, Mirani then up Cattle Creek to the quaint hamlet of Eungella nestled between the Broken River and Denham Ranges. Back to the coast at Mackay for the evening.

Day 8

(CB, MD, Motel) Free time in Mackay this morning before enjoying our last drive down the coast through Sarina before we come in behind the extensive Australian Army Shoalwater Bay Training Area to arrive in Rockhampton.

Day 9

(CB, MD, Motel) Morning visit to the inspiring Cathedral Cave in the Capricorn Cave System. We reach the Queensland Coast for lunch at Yeppoon, the gateway to the Keppel Islands. Following the coast down to Emu Park and returning to Rockhampton. Note: Cave entry included

Day 10

(CB) Heading home after a refreshing, relaxing meander along the Queensland Coast.
