Mount Augustus

Located 852 kilometres north of Perth, Mount Augustus is Australia’s largest inselberg, even larger than it’s more famous cousin Ayres Rock.  Known as Burringurrah to the local Wajarri Aborginal people, the national park that surrounds the mount is 607,603 hectares. There is plenty to see and do while you are in the park including taking a 49 kilometre loop drive around the sandstone inselberg.

The park is home to an abundance of wildlife including emus, lizards, red kangaroos, birds of prey and echidnas. Spend some time at the cattle pool on Lyons River spotting animals or simply enjoying the park.

The park is also home to plenty of flora, especially during wildflower time where visitors can hope to see wattles, cassias, foxglove and many more native species. The area is of high biological diversity, making it a popular spot for tourists seeking wildflowers.

There are also 11 tracks available to hiking enthusiasts, ranging from 200 meters to 12 kilometres in length, and a variety of difficulty – making it suitable for a wide range of fitness levels. Some short walks include: the Flintstone rock walk, the Gum Grove Trail and the Saddle Trail. Half day walks include: Edney’s to Ooramboo and Gum Grove to Warrarla.

With some consideration visitors can expect to enjoy their time in the Mount Augustus National Park thoroughly. Casey Tours takes the hassle out of visiting the park by looking after all your driving, most meals, safety surrounding preparation for walks as well as making sure you have an enjoyable time with like minded passengers.
