4WD Kimberley Tours Completed

Date Published: 24/07/2011

Our 4WD tours of the Kimberley started on 1st June. With a very long and wet season some roads and attractions were still closed. But the areas we could get access to were looking spectacular. The Spring Creek Track (the road from the Great Northern Highway to the Bungles) was extremely wet and exciting. Once into the Bungles Echidna Chasm and Cathedral Gorge made it worth the ride.
Due to the Mitchell Falls and Kalumburu roads being shut the extra time was spent at El Questro station. The gorges and hot springs on the station are iconic Kimberley locations.
With 2 nights at Drysdale Station where Casey Tours paid for the passengers to fly out over the Mitchell Falls we had time to relax and enjoy the landscape. There was even a chance for a round of "Drysdale Golf" (a very primitive sport involving branches and crushed cans).
The gorges of the western end of the Gibb River Road excited the passengers, including; Manning Gorge, Galvins Gorge, Windjana and Tunnel Creek.
The second tour on the 21st of June ran a very similar program to the first tour. By the start date of the third tour the road to Mitchell Falls was open under permit. Camping at the King Edward campsite we were able to finally make it to the falls.

Now the passengers and staff are back home. The 4WD coach is in Broome and about to head off to Cairns to start work up on Cape York.
I would like to thank all the passengers on these tours for their companionship, assistance and good spirit. Also Larissa who controlled the cooking and hosting expertly over 7 weeks.
It has been great meeting many people as we worked around the Kimberley. Including;
Colin, Peter & Josh - Bungle Bungle Caravan Park
Vini - Mecure Broome
Carol and Ben - Lakeside Resort Kununurra
Rory, Greg & Choccy - Adventure Wild
Barry - Australia Adventure
Pam, Wayne, Max & Katie - Drysdale Station
Robert - Manning Gorge
Jamie - Broome Site Weld

Hope to see you all again on tour somewhere around Australia
Tim Casey
